ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid admitted on Saturday that there has been an increase in terror attacks in Pakistan. He said that smaller groups have become active and attacking in various parts of the country "following Taliban's success" against the Indian intelligence agency (RAW) and 42 foreign forces in Afghanistan.
The interior ministry issued a notification directing provincial governments and law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant in light of the recent terrorist assault in Lahore's Anarkali Bazaar and the threats posed by "anti-state groups."
Speaking at a news conference in the federal capital, the interior minister said the current wave of terrorism had increased by about 35 percent to 38 percent since August 15 when Taliban fighters entered Kabul last year.
A top interior ministry official specifically attributed the increase in terrorist attacks to the fall of Kabul in August 2021.
He said that there has been an increase in terrorist events since the Taliban took over Afghanistan following the U.S. pullout after nearly two decades.
