Ireland seeks to deny access to other countries by Kinahan criminals

WASHINGTON D.C.: The United States has denied entry to at least 600 people associated with Ireland's Kinahan organized crime group, according to Assistant Garda Commissioner John O'Driscoll.

Speaking to RT News in Washington D.C., O'Driscoll said that following U.S. actions last month, those working in businesses connected to sports, especially boxing, have been unable to enter the U.S.

"We're satisfied that the people concerned who are involved in criminality associated with that organised crime group will be denied entry into other jurisdictions," O'Driscoll told RTE.

"What has been displayed as a consequence of the sanctioning is the connection between the Kinahan organised crime group and, for example, sport and businesses associated with boxing, in particular, and its connections with the U.S. are a particular focus of the U.S. authorities," he added.

O'Driscoll said that Garda is also talking with other countries, urging them to deny entry visas to people connected with the crime group.

O'Driscoll said he is now in the U.S. to seek to create a system to share information about the Kinahan crime family members so that the appropriate U.S. agencies can act to keep those associating with criminals out.

O'Driscoll also said he he hopes to see criminal prosecutions, both in Ireland and abroad, of the leaders of the Kinahan organised crime group.

To date, O'Driscoll said, 70 people who associated with the Kinahan crime group have been arrested.
