The Miami Dolphins opened the season 1-1 , but would lose starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for four games following a concussion in Week 2. They entered their bye in Week 6 with a 2-3 record. The Dolphins lost the next three games despite Tagovailoa's return in Week 8. A bounceback effort of three-straight wins brought them back to 5-6, putting them solidly behind the division leading 9-2 Buffalo Bills in the AFC East and only a game and a half outside the final NFC Wild Card berth. The Dolphins split their final six games of the season to finish 8-9 with Tagovailoa missing the final two games with a hip injury. Miami finished second in the AFC East, missing the postseason.
With the Dolphins needing to replaceretired left tackle Terron Armsteadwho started 15 games and left guard Robert Jones (17 starts) who signing with the Dallas Cowboys, the team brought in several new faces in the trenches. Miami signed veteran guard James Daniels who looks to recover from an injury shortened 2024 after suffering an Achilles injury in Week 4. They also added offensive lineman Larry Borom from the Chicago Bears as well as selected guard Jonah Savaiinaea with their second round selection (37th overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft out of the University of Arizona.
The Dolphins also sought to bolster the interior of their defensive line in the 2025 NFL Draft. In the first round, Miami selected defensive tackle Kenneth Grant out of the University of Michigan with the 13th overall pick. Grant posted 32 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks with the Wolverines, earning third-team AP All-American honors. In the fifth round, the Dolphins made their third selection of the draft with defensive tackle Jordan Phillips at 143rd overall out of the University of Maryland. He started 12 games in 2024 with the Terrapins and contributed 29 tackles and a tackle for loss.
The Dolphins reshaped their quarterback room behind starter Tua Tagovailoa. Miami signed former Denver Broncos and New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson in free agency and drafted Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the seventh round (231st overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft. They also signed Miami University (OH) quarterback Brett Gabbert as an undrafted free agent after a rookie minicamp tryout. While the Dolphins will hope for better health for Tagovailoa in 2025, the Dolphins starter has missed time due to injury in four of his first five NFL seasons.
