BEIJING, China: As global tech firms navigate rising geopolitical tensions, China has extended a warm signal to Apple, one of its most prominent foreign investors.
Apple CEO Tim Cook was told this week that the company remains welcome to grow its footprint in the world's second-largest economy.
China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with Cook in Beijing and "welcomed Apple to continue expanding its investment in China," according to a statement from the ministry.
The two discussed Apple's business operations in China and broader China-U.S. economic and trade ties, the statement said.
Cook is among several global executives attending the annual China Development Forum in Beijing, held on March 23 and March 24. Sources told Reuters that some of the visiting CEOs are expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping later in the week.
